Job Description


Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC Postdoctoral Associate. The Gourdie lab at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion – Roanoke, VA is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to work on an exciting new use of peptides targeting the voltage gated sodium channel Scn1b and Cx43 in treating arrhythmia, including delivery of such therapeutics with extracellular vesicles (exosomes).

Candidates with interest and experience in the following areas are encouraged to apply: Electrophsyiology • Optical mapping • VGSC and Connexin biology• Cell and Molecular biology• Protein engineering• Cell therapy• Tissue engineering / Regenerative medicine (especially cardiac injury).

The Postdoctoral Associate will have responsibilities in the following areas:1. Research Conceptualization – Coordinating with and assisting the PI in the design of experiment and grant proposal methodology as well as methods for analyzing the results of experiments. 2. Research Publications – Preparation of text, tables, and graphical information as appropriate for dissemination in peer-reviewed publications, or presentation at professional conferences or in book chapters.3. Data Analysis – Analyzing the findings from research methods and transforming the results into formats appropriate for dissemination in peer reviewed publications or conference presentations or informats that engender further analysis.4. Project Management – Training and supervising research personnel to organize and conduct study sessions. This position will be funded by a NIH R35 award, and successful applicants will be encouraged to cultivate independent funding (e.g. NIH F32, AHA post-doctoral fellowship, K99/R00 awards). Required Qualifications

- PhD in cardiac electrophysiology, drug discovery and testing, molecular and cellular biology or similar medical discipline. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
- Prior experience in preparation of proposals, reports, and publications; presentation of research results; and development of patents.
- Demonstrated experience in cell biology or VGSC and connexin biology.


Preferred Qualifications

- A record of research excellence as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications and invited talks.
