The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Michigan State University invites applications for a half-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position supervised by Professor Jim Anthony. The successful candidate will focus on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) ‘Diversity Matters’ initiatives, helping to build new science education and research training programs, and concurrently to work up one or more NIH research career development applications intended to foster the candidate’s own NIH/National Institute of Drug Abuse capacities for future independent research. 

Building MSU capacity to compete successfully for NIH. The position is for an initial three-month term appointment with an expectation of renewal based on job performance and available funding. 1/2 Time (50-64.9%)

Doctorate -Epidemiology

• Career commitment to understanding health inequities and epidemiological studies to address those inequities.
• At least one year of recent experience of work on an NIH/NIDA R25 science education program.
• Prior experience building NIH/NIDA T32 research training program applications.
• Strong epidemiological and statistical skills
• Proficiency in statistical analytic software, especially R, Stata, & SAS
• Past authorship with R-scripts for Hill functional analysis and both Bayesian and frequentist meta-analysis.
• Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.

• Relevant dissertation and publication record
• Experience working with NIH/NIDA-oriented datasets (e.g., NSDUH, ABCD).
• Experience working with case-crossover and probability sample study designs.
• Demonstrated capacities for independence in research.
