The Face Research Lab (PI: Alice O’Toole) at UT Dallas invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar position, to begin in the Fall of 2022. We seek an innovative scholar with a PhD in Cognitive Science, Computer Vision, Psychology, or related fields. This lab conducts research in human and machine-based face recognition, using interdisciplinary techniques from psychology, computational modeling, and cognitive neuroscience.
The research associate will contribute to a newly funded initiative to develop a test of facial identification performance to be administered to professional forensic facial examiners. The project will have theoretical, experimental and computational components. The primary focus of the work is to design and conduct facial identification experiments with (untrained) human participants, with the goal of benchmarking stimulus sets that will challenge professional face identification experts. A main focus of the project is to create a test of face recognition skills for faces of different races. We will also compare human performance to the performance of state-of-the-art computer-based face recognition systems.
Minimum Education and Experience

Ph.D in a related field.

Preferred Education and Experience
Ph.D. in psychology, cognitive science, or a field related to human perception, cognition, or computational vision. Experience in experimental design, statistics, and a background in visual cognition, face perception, or experimental psychology. Experience in Python and/or R is desirable, but not required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Postdoc(s) will work on a collaborative project aimed at designing and developing a test of face identification skills for faces that vary in ethnicity and race. The goal of the work is to create a test that can be used to measure the skills of professional forensic face identification experts and state-of-the-art face recognition algorithms. The successful candidate(s) will join a collaborative project with computer vision scientists and engineers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The job will require skill with experimental design, statistical analysis (with R or python).
