Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Counselor EOF Program for the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program. Reporting to a School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program Manager, this position provides holistic comprehensive academic, career, student life and personal counseling, develops intervention strategies for college success, and makes referrals to appropriate University offices and departments for an assigned caseload of students admitted to the University through the SAS EOF Program.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsibilities focus on retention initiatives including: serving on SAS EOF, SAS, and other University-wide committees, performing academic and student development related tasks, teaching a section of the RU 1st Seminar, as well as developing goal setting, leadership, and programming activities that promote academic achievement.
  • As the first point of contact for EOF students, effectively provides academic, personal, career, and financial guidance and counseling to assigned students and other EOF students as needed.
  • Meets with students in assigned caseload to develop academic plans with short- and long-term goals with the primary objective of retention, persistence, and graduation.
  • Works with students toward desired academic and achievable objectives.
  • Makes adequate and appropriate referrals to University resources.
  • Position requires enhancing the student experience by ensuring individual student needs are met.
  • Position requires that semester and yearly reports are given to program managers on assigned students’ performances as well as develop specific student plans to help students who are at risk and are in need of assistance.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree preferably in counseling, psychology, social work, or student development.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong written and verbal skills required, and the ability to work on group projects and team-oriented tasks. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability and skill in addressing the issues and factors impacting at-risk college students. Student life experience, and familiarity with the college student financial aid process.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers two years of substantive counseling, teaching, or related student development experience in a college setting.
  • The Senior EOF Counselor in performing his/her job responsibilities must be knowledgeable of the following systems and processes: New Jersey EOF eligibility guidelines, financial aid award process and eligibility guidelines, the curriculum and degree requirements for graduation, University’s student services policies and practices, and the University’s student life procedures.
