Lake Tahoe Community College is looking for a highly motivated, energetic Head Cross-Country and Long-Distance Track Coach.

This position has year-round responsibilities including in-season competitions, off season training, recruitment periods, and other duties required to support successful cross country and long-distance track programs. Cross-country's season is fall and Long-Distance track is winter.

Adjunct instructors are categorized as part-time, contracted faculty teaching assigned courses on a quarter basis. Part-time faculty positions do not exceed 67% of a full-time faculty member's load.

Salary Range: Head coach starting salary range is $23,000 to $26,000 annually per sport depending on head coaching experience with possibility to reach $29,000 per sport with time at LTCC. This recruitment includes the head coach position for two sports thus making the starting range for both sports $46,000 to $52,000 annually.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
After review, suitable applicants will be invited by phone or email on or around Monday, November 21, 2022 to participate in a skills assessment. Successful candidates will then be interviewed by a committee of approximately 5 individuals; these interviews are tentatively scheduled for December 8, 2022. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview. LTCC reserves the right to return to the applicant pool at any point during the recruitment process.

Under the direction of the athletic director, administer all aspects of the cross-country and long-distance track programs, including the recruitment of student athletes, organizing, and conducting practices, and planning, scheduling, and budgeting for the program. Supporting student athletes in achieving their academic goals and transferring to four-year universities.

Coordinate all aspects of successful intercollegiate cross-country and long-distance track programs.

Provide instruction, mentoring, and coaching to student-athletes by providing an atmosphere of positive learning.

Recruit student athletes in compliance with the rules and regulations of the California Athletic Code.

Plan and schedule for the intercollegiate cross-country/long distance track seasons; organize and coordinate all aspects of practice and competition in regional and state championship meets.

Organize and conduct practices; coach team at games as scheduled by conference; present well coached teams that play with enthusiasm, knowledge, and discipline.

Working with the Athletic Director, develop and manage the cross-country program budget.

Organize and conduct practices.

Provide guidance for assistant coaches and/or instructional aides.

Promote interest and attendance at athletic events; assist in fund-raising efforts for the program.

Coordinate facilities and equipment needs; administer scheduling and team travel.

Instruct related courses in cross-country and long-distance track and conditioning; oversee the academic and personal development of student-athletes in skills direct and support student/athletes completing their academic requirements at the community college to transfer to four-year institutions.

Work closely with administrators, faculty, and students establishing and maintaining active participation with athletic academic committees.

Represent the College at professional meetings and with external constituencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of coaching experience, OR
  • Associate’s degree and six years of coaching experience, OR
  • The equivalent.

AND

  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds, and disabilities of community college students and staff.

Knowledge of:

  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the subject sport.
  • Current guidelines governing college sports.
  • Deliver coaching instruction in various learning styles.
  • Interpersonal skills required to work with diverse students, faculty and programs.

Ability to:

  • Demonstrate safe and appropriate techniques and use of equipment.
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with students, athletes, community members and staff.
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional excellence and continuous growth within subject field.
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds, and disabilities of community college students and staff.

Additional Requirement (Licensure/Certification):

  • CPR and First Aid certification (if not held, to be obtained within three months of hire).

  • Office/Outdoors environment.
  • Work is performed in a variety of indoor, outdoor and athletic field settings, both on and off campus.
