WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Fisheries Fellow works in the St. Croix Coral Innovation Hub and provides field, research, administrative and general assistance to program staff working toward the achievement of coral reef protection, restoration, and monitoring goals. The FF, under the direction of the Coral Manager, works with the coral team to plan, execute, and document coral program initiatives and field projects, with a focus on coral reef fisheries. The FF participates in all aspects of coral conservation and restoration and works in the field, and in an office setting. The FF supports planning, execution, and documentation of coral conservation activities, including coral-associated fish surveys, and conducts research and literature review, data collection, data analysis and reporting. The FF also supports day-to-day hub operations by maintaining and organizing workspaces and equipment.

The ideal candidate should have experience in conducting marine field work and scientific diving, working from vessels offshore, collection of scientific data, and the ability to work well within a team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ongoing mission of conservation by supporting and shaping the work of our Coral Innovation Hub!

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • High school diploma or GED and 6 months experience in marine or science-related field.
  • Experience working with or knowledge of marine ecosystems and coral reef fish identification.
  • Must be SCUBA certified with scientific diving experience.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
  • Experience using applications of standard Microsoft business software.
  • Experience following instructions from colleagues/coworkers/team members.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Organizational, communication and time management skills experience.

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION

This is a term-limited position, with a start date conditional on project award (anticipated late November 2022). The position has an end date of June 30, 2023; the position may be extended contingent on additional funding.

The pay range for this position is $17-20/hr, depending on experience.

Only applicants who are currently eligible to work in the United States will be considered. Unfortunately, The Nature Conservancy is unable to provide support for a work permit or relocation for this position.

AUTO SAFETY POLICY

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers."
