Full Job Description

The Environmental Hydrodynamics Group in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at ODU invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The postdoc will work with a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) funded interdisciplinary project that seeks to integrate hydrodynamic modeling, remote sensing, transportation engineering, materials engineering, and economic analysis to understand the climate change and sea level rise impacts on resilience of transportation systems.

The Postdoc will primarily assist with the development and calibration of a high-fidelity hydrodynamic model for compound storm tide and rainfall-driven flooding and morpho dynamic modeling, process and visualize model output, and prepare and submit journal articles based on research outcomes. The Postdoc is expected to help with some of the administrative tasks of the project as needed.

Qualifications include:

  • Ph.D. in coastal, civil, or ocean engineering, physical oceanography, or a closely related field
  • Experience with Matlab or Python
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills

In addition to working closely with their supervisor, the Postdoc will gain experience in collaboration with students, Postdocs, and Researchers. Travel to scientific conferences is expected. They will have the opportunity to participate in preparing research proposals.
