Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Visiting Researcher in Child Health Institute of New Jersey Department of Neuroscience at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of Dr. Zhiping Pang (Principal Investigator) the visiting scholar will be responsible for molecular cloning, cell culture, confocal imaging, and data analysis. The applicant should have a solid background in neuroscience and/or cell biology and be able to perform molecular, cellular and imaging experiments. Applicants must be able to conduct independent experiments and prepare written and oral reports.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Performs mammalian cell culture including isolation and expansion of cells from bot murine and human tissues; performs
    cell survival assays; and transfection of mammalian cells.
  • Assists in maintaining laboratory instrumentation such as centrifuges, electrophoresis and confocal microscopes.
  • May assist in the establishment of performance standards, as well as in the selection of research methodologies and instrumentation, and coordination of instrumentation and experimental approaches in support of CHI research.
  • Assists in the conducting a continuous program of research and development. May evaluate existing procedures and proposes modifications or changes in order to keep the methodology and procedures current.
  • May assist with the instructing and training of students, fellows, technicians and laboratory assistants as required.
  • Assists the Principal Investigator with the preparation of grant applications as requested.
    • Keeps clear and detailed records of procedures and experiments in accordance with laboratory guidelines, maintains data in
    shared and readily accessible locations, presents data to the PI and other lab members.
    • Submits purchase recommendations, to his/her supervisor, of equipment and supplies.
    • Must work collaboratively and independently with laboratories and researchers within CHI and Rutgers.
    • Attends and actively participate in both weekly and monthly group research meetings, discussions and journal clubs.
    • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Qualified candidates should be a recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Majored in Medicine, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or relevant biological sciences.
  • Prior experience with basic or clinical research.
  • Training in basic experimental techniques, including histology, rodent brain dissection, stereotaxic surgeries for
    intracerebroventricular injections, fluorescent microscopy.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills; and ability to understand and communicate in English to sufficiently perform the job duties.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have the ability to work collaboratively and independently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in biology or biomedicine.
  • Experience with animal behavioral techniques.

• Must pass employee health clearance, TB Test and required laboratory safety training.
• Must follow all safety precautions in laboratory, as required.
