MAJOR DONOR GIFT OFFICER- Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVB)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Major Gift Donor officer secures funds for HSVB by managing a group of assigned and qualified donors (caseload) assuring that as many as possible are retained as continuing donor to the organization and are upgraded in their giving and involvement.

Minimum of 40 hours a week with occasional weekend and evening work. Requires regular travel within Indian River County, and occasional longer distances. Approximately 50% of time is spent face-to-face with donors.

The Major Donor Gift Officer reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Qualifies a caseload of 150 donors from a larger group of donors to the organization.

· Creates individual goals for each person on the caseload based on the donor’s history of giving and the organization’s knowledge of that donor’s potential.

· Creates a plan for each donor that will serve as a foundational communication and marketing plan for each person on the caseload. Faithfully and on a timely basis execute that plan so that individuals on the caseload are retained and upgraded.

· Works with program and the marketing staff to secure appropriate project information, including budges, and create offers, proposals and asks that will be used with persons on the caseload to secure gifts.

· Creates monthly reports as required by management that accurately reflects caseload activity and performance.

· Performs other major donor activities as may be required.

ACCOUNTABILITY – PERFORMANCE MEASURES

· Ability to qualify donors from the larger pool or organizational donors that meet the major gift criteria.

· Ability to create reasonable financial goals for each donor which is based on their giving and their potential.

· Ability to create a personal contact and ask plan, that takes into account the individual donor’s interest, motivations, giving patterns and ask preferences for each donor on his/her caseload in a timely and cost-effective manner.

· Ability to retain and upgrade donors.

· Ability to secure project and organization information and create and write effective offers, proposals and asks. Ability to secure information that can be sent back to donors to report on how their money was used.

· Ability to create timely reports that reflect caseload performance.

· Ability to manage people, process, deadlines and budget while adhering to the policies and procedures of the organization.

· Ability to get along with peers, subordinates and management and maintain a positive and constructive attitude while solving problems. Ability to be a team player and protect the mission, goals and values of the organization.

Minimum Job Requirements and/or Qualifications:

· Commitment to HSVB’s mission and vision.

· Five + years of successful experience in a senior role with some campaign-related work in a nonprofit setting, animal welfare a plus.

· Proven success in raising major gifts from individuals.

· Experience managing development teams and working with a Board of Directors.

· Outstanding strategic, communications and interpersonal skills.

· Experience in planning, leading and managing development projects.

· Goal-driven, holding self and others accountable to department and agency goals, with effective skills at prioritizing and redirecting activities to achieve the desired outcomes.

· Maturity and confidence in dealing with internal leaders and external stakeholders.

· Effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives.

· Critical thinking skills and focus on consistent process improvement.

· Strong customer service orientation and effectiveness in interacting with people from different backgrounds.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Flexibility with work schedule in support of events and deadlines.

· Commitment to on-going learning and growth.

Salary: Salary range is $75,000 - $95,000 and is commensurate with skills, experience, and qualifications.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, as well as move and traverse within the shelter facility for extended periods of time, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is required to communicate, converse with, convey information to, express oneself, and exchange information with shelter staff and the general public.

The employee must regularly move, transport, and position items weighing up to 10 pounds, frequently moves, transports, and positions items weighing up to 25 pounds, and occasionally moves, transports, and positions items weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee is continuously exposed to animals, animal waste, potentially harmful cleaning chemicals, high noise and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites and working outdoors for extended periods of time during cold and extremely hot weather.
