Summary of Position

The Psychology Program of Plymouth State University invites qualified applicants to apply for two full time, 9-month, Tenure Track Assistant Professor or Non-Tenure Track Teaching Faculty positions in Psychology to commence in August 2023.

Successful applicants will join an existing team of dedicated, innovative individuals and should share their strong commitment to teaching and student success. Teaching responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, Introduction to General Psychology, Research Methods and Statistics I, Research Methods and Statistics II, and other courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach courses related to Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, or Clinical Psychology. All candidates will also be expected to advise undergraduate students and provide service to the university.

Tenure-track candidates should maintain an active research program that will involve undergraduate students and collaboration with other disciplines across the university. The university embraces the Boyer Model of scholarship and uses those guidelines to determine tenure and promotion.

Psychology currently offers three undergraduate degree programs: a B.A., a B.S. with emphasis in Developmental Psychology, and a B.S. with emphasis in Mental Health. Psychology also offers minors in Psychology and Neuroscience and serves students in the Interdisciplinary Studies program. Psychology majors have opportunities to do internships and independent research projects with faculty. At present, the program has four full-time faculty, several part-time faculty and serves approximately 215 undergraduate majors. The program continues to explore innovative approaches to pedagogy and curricular design to further improve student outcomes. The Psychology program also plays a vital role in Plymouth State’s General Education program, as well as the cluster-based environment, towards which the university is moving.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Psychology (ABD also considered)
  • Demonstrated potential for excellent teaching
  • Skills to serve as an academic advisor and mentor for undergraduate students
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Competence in technology and innovative course delivery strategies
  • Established record of (or demonstrated potential for) establishing an agenda of research, scholarship, and external funding in psychology

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years of successful undergraduate-level teaching experience
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate research assistants and supervising undergraduate research projects
  • Ability to develop partnerships with other programs and organizations on and off campus that relate to the increasing mental health crisis in New Hampshire.
