CELLULAR ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY AND DYNAMIC IN VIVO IMAGING DUKE UNIVERSITY

We seek a highly-motivated individual who enjoys the opportunity to collaborate with clinicians yet pursue his or her own ideas in a supportive environment. We seek to understand and ultimately modulate molecular, cellular, and circuit mechanisms underlying the development and persistence of temporal lobe epilepsy in humans.

Presently we have projects in:

  • Two-photon imaging of BDNF-TrkB signaling in single dendritic spines of CA1 pyramidal neurons undergoing synaptic plasticity
  • Inhibition of TrkB signaling in defined circuits for prevention and disease modification of epileptogenesis
  • Synaptic plasticity mechanisms underlying LTP of mossy fiber-CA3 microcircuit in epileptogenesis

The focus of this position is on cellular physiologyand in vivo imaging of genetically identified neurons in hippocampal circuits utilizing novel technologies.  These tools are deployed for study of mechanisms of epileptogenesis aimed at translation to humans. The strong interdisciplinary and collaborative environment at Duke is ideal for our translational research efforts.

This is a full-time position with University Benefits that provides exceptional opportunities for interdisciplinary research and career development.
