Job Summary | The Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences (BGES) and the School of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University invite applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Environmental Science and Environmental Studies with an emphasis on computational tools relevant to biological, environmental, and/or earth-sciences. CSU is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. CSU is striving to be a nationally recognized and student-focused public research institution that provides accessible, affordable, and Engaged Learning opportunities for all . This joint position is part of the Center for Research on the Urban Environment (CRUE), which links the environmental science and environmental studies programs. The successful candidate would receive a joint appointment in both departments, and tenure will be considered in BGES. The appointment will begin August 21st, 2023. Primary duties include conducting research and teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in Environmental Science and Environmental Studies. CSU also anticipates hiring additional faculty with expertise in computational biology. Regionally, there are diverse options for collaboration with a variety of other institutions that conduct research and manage natural resources, including the Holden Forests and Gardens, Cleveland Metroparks, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, Cleveland Water Alliance, and NASA Glenn Research Center, as well as with nearby universities (e.g., Case Western Reserve University and Kent State University). Salary is commensurate with qualifications and competitive with other research-intensive universities. Startup funds are available and proportional to the potential for acquiring external funding. CSU is an urban university with more than 15,000 students located in the heart of Cleveland, OH. According to the Brookings Institution, CSU is No. 18 in the U.S. among public universities that fulfill a critical dual mission: providing upward mobility and conducting impactful research.
