Course Description: IHCOMM-101 Careers & Professional Communication (4 Credits) In this experiential course, students learn what it means to communicate professionally. By engaging with selected employers through class and on-site visits, students are also introduced to various careers and internship opportunities, and understand the kinds of skills that employers look for in successful candidates.
Our students come from diverse socio-economic and educational backgrounds, with a high percentage of first-generation college students. By the time Keene State College students complete their undergraduate experience they develop critical thinking, creative inquiry, intercultural competence, civic engagement, and commitments to well-being and to sustainability that will serve them as active citizens and lifelong learners. We strongly encourage individuals to apply who will support the College’s ongoing efforts to help students become responsible global citizens.

KeeneRequired Qualifications
- A graduate degree at the M.A. level or higher (or equivalent ABD status)
- Experience teaching at the college level as the instructor of record
- Knowledge of local employers and internship opportunities
- A strong understanding of the communication skills that employers look for in successful job candidates, and the ability to convey this understanding to students in a classroom setting
- The ability to identify and arrange opportunities for students to interact directly with employers through site visits, guest speakers, or similar forums
Preferred Qualifications
- An M.A. in the field of communication studies
- Experience teaching communication courses at the college level
- Experience supervising internships for academic credit
- Familiarity with the Canvas learning management system
