POSITION SUMMARY:

World Relief Western Washington is a Christian non-profit organization that provides support to refugees, asylees, and other immigrants in Western WA. We envision every refugee and immigrant welcomed by community, rooted in community, and empowered for community. Every year, thousands of people pass through the Northwest Immigration Detention facility in Tacoma, WA. Detainees are sent to this facility from all over the country. Some stay in the center for days, others for many months and even years. World Relief Western Washington (WRWW) is now accepting applications for a full-time Detention Center Post-Release Coordinator to support and coordinate people’s transition and welcome upon release.

Compensation: $26.75 - $28.75 DOE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee the post-release program to meet the ongoing and changing needs of released detainees in support of the work of World Relief Western WA (WRWW).
  • Regularly communicate and collaborate with the Outreach manager about the needs and progress of the program.
  • Build partnerships with local area churches and organizations to further the development of our post-release program.
  • Regularly update and educate WR staff on your work, the Tacoma detention center, and political updates and advocacy opportunities related to immigration.
  • Coordinate volunteers to provide services to detainees upon release (phone calls, securing flights, transportation to the airport, temporary hotel stays or host homes, clothes, food, backpacks, hygiene items, etc.).
  • Support detainees that have been deported as needed and able (providing basic items for their journey, connecting them with churches or other orgs. in the receiving country, coordinating pen pals, etc.).
  • On-call host home volunteer training, coordination, and management.
  • Transportation coordination (to airport/bus station, to and from host homes and hotels, etc.).
  • Partner with AID NW's Welcome Center for volunteer and detainee support.
  • Recruit and train new volunteers, provide management and supervision for volunteers.
  • Thank and show appreciation to existing volunteers.
  • Track and maintain up-to-date records of volunteer information, hours and activities, reports; enter data regularly into database, and ensure all PII security protocols are followed by staff and volunteers.
  • Refer released detainees to asylum-seeker case worker as needed.
  • Assist the WRS Outreach Team in educating the public about the work we do and how they can join us in welcoming refugees and immigrants.
  • Develop and adapt post-release program based on community needs and partnership opportunities.
    Report data and stories for funding and grant applications, and monitor post-release grants.
  • Oversee the work of post-release interns, volunteers, and partnering orgs.
  • Other related tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively with people of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.
  • Previous experience with volunteer management and training development preferred.
  • Experience with trauma-informed care strongly preferred.
  • Lived experience as a refugee or immigrant, or experience working or volunteering with refugees, immigrants, and/or non-native English speakers strongly preferred.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple duties.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Strong computer knowledge, including MS Office and the ability to learn new programs.

  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
  • Bi-Lingual in Spanish or Strong Knowledge of Spanish required.
  • Current Washington State driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
  • Flexibility in schedule required (your work may fall outside normal business hours).
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations
  • The ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-15 pounds
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information
  • The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • General office setting
  • Great lengths of time working on computer, reading from computer screen, entering information, standing at copier or fax machine, and some time on the phone or in skype meetings may be required
  • Year-end archiving activities involve repeated lifting and bending
  • Physical, emotional and intellectual demands
  • Equipment used: Employee computer (desktop or laptop), printer, and copier
