The University of Miami is among the top research universities and academic medical centers in the nation, and one of the largest private employers in South Florida.

With more than 16,000 faculty and staff, the University strives for excellence, and is driven by a powerful mission to transform and impact the lives of its students, patients, members of the community, and people across the globe.

Through values of Diversity, Integrity, Responsibility, Excellence, Compassion, Creativity, and Teamwork (DIRECCT) the U community works together to create an environment driven by purpose, excellence, community, and service.

The Department of Biology at the University of Miami (Miami, FL) is hiring a Postdoctoral Associate in Population and Meta-population Dynamics of Plant-Microbial Interactions within the Afkhami & Searcy Lab.

The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research to investigate the role of plant-microbial interactions in demography, landscape ecology, and conservation of plant species in the imperiled Florida Scrub ecosystem. This is an NSF-funded project to create demographic models from existing long-term datasets and then incorporate plant-microbial interactions into these models using new experimental data. The Postdoctoral Associate will then use these models to investigate questions of population persistence and metapopulation dynamics. We are also excited for the Postdoctoral Associate to bring their own perspective to the system and work with us to develop new ideas to pursue. The postdoc will have the opportunity to collect, analyze, and integrate multiple forms of data (e.g., new greenhouse experiments, existing long term field data) and modeling skills (e.g., Integral Projection Modeling, metapopulation modeling). The postdoc will also have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate and graduate students and write manuscripts as lead author.

This research will be done at University of Miami and the nearby Archbold Biological Station (http://www.archbold-station.org/).

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Ecology or Evolutionary Biology; experience with demographic modeling preferred. Other important qualifications are a background in statistical methods, a strong work ethic, problem-solving and time management skills, a track record of publications, independent research experience, and experience with or an interest in plant-microbial interactions, preferred.

This is a two-year position (one year contract with an expectation for renewal provided that first-year performance is satisfactory).

All interested applicants, please upload your CV (including contact information for 3 references), a description of previous experience (~1 short paragraphs), and reason(s) for wanting this opportunity (~1 short paragraph) when applying to position. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
