Tumor Biology Program Coordinator, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center – Georgetown University Medical Center

Over the past two decades, there has been a revolution in the study of cancer biology. Advances in molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology have contributed to our understanding of malignant transformation, cancer prevention, and cancer therapy. The Georgetown’s Interdisciplinary Program in Tumor Biology provides doctoral and masters students with an excellent environment and interdisciplinary training for a career in cancer biology research.

Job Overview

The Tumor Biology Program Coordinator serves as primary coordinator for the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) graduate educational activities, including the Tumor Biology Ph.D. program, the Tumor Biology M.S. program, and the LCCC postdoctoral training program.

They work with the students, mentors, teaching faculty and staff to support graduate education by coordinating the activities ongoing within the Ph.D., M.S., and postdoctoral training program; and by working with trainees, mentors, and teaching faculty to facilitate the efficient and teaching and training missions of the LCCC.

Work Interactions

Reporting directly to the Directors of Graduate Studies the for the TBIO Ph.D. and TBIO M.S. programs, the Tumor Biology Program Coordinator supports the work of the TBIO Education Committee that coordinates graduate educational activities.

For coordinating priorities for the overall educational mission for the Cancer Center, they receive day-to-day direction from the DGSs for the Ph.D. and M.S. programs who work with the Director of Postdoctoral Training; the PIs of the T32 and other Training Grants, as well as the Associate Director for Education and Training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree - preference for Master’s degree
  • 2 years of comparable administrative experience
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Proficiency with MS Word, knowledge of graphics and desk-top publishing applications, and an understanding of database management and spreadsheet applications
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with a variety of persons
  • Detail orientation with ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks

Preferred qualification

Experience in education and interactions with students
