Job Description Summary
The Center for Bioenergy and Bioproducts (CBB) at Auburn University is seeking candidates for three positions of Post-Doctoral Fellows. These are benefits eligible, non-tenure track positions. The appointments are for an initial period of one year, with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of a four year period depending on performance and funding availability. The expected start date is January 2, 2023.
These are research jobs involving professional and technical work in the study of producing fuels and chemicals from biomass utilizing thermochemical platform primarily pyrolysis and hydrothermal liquefaction. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assist center director; supervise bioenergy and biofuels activities of the center; operate bench-scale reactors for bio-oil upgrading; summarize data and publish findings from research; assist in writing proposals for further extramural funding; prepare technical reports, manuscripts for publication and various presentations; and perform various other duties as assigned by the director.
Minimum Qualifications
The minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Biosystems, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field by the expected position start date. Candidates should have documented experience and/or the ability to conduct research in biofuels via pyrolysis and hydrothermal liquefaction. Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative research resulting in peer-reviewed publications is required. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, demonstrated technical excellence and ability to work both independently and in a team environment are necessary. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications include: previous experience in biomass and waste plastic liquefaction and pyrolysis, bio-oil/biocrude upgrading, catalyst synthesis and testing; demonstrated record of securing extramural funding for research programs; demonstrated a strong commitment and potential to excel in research in the area of chemical engineering, industry experience in biofuel and petroleum industries.
