Job Title:
Postdoctoral Scholar

Department:
Arts and Sciences | Chemistry and Biochemistry Administration

The Postdoctoral Scholar will research synthetic bio-inorganic chemistry specifically: complex synthesis under inert atmosphere conditions and characterizations of inorganic complexes with spectroscopic techniques such as NMR, IR, EPR, XAS, ESI-MS. The scholar will take part in critical thinking in proposing research ideas and in writing and presenting the results. This individual assists in design layout and construction of devices and systems to meet specific needs of a project; assists in the collection of data and compiles and records observations and measurements; orders and inventories various components; attends group meetings and appropriate research related department, university and research community events and professional meetings.

Professor Shiyu Zhang’s Laboratory at The Ohio State University is seeking postdoctoral fellows for research in synthetic inorganic chemistry starting as early as January 4st, 2022. An ideal candidate would bring their expertise in electrochemistry to address problems in the interface of inorganic chemistry and material science. The Zhang lab is broadly interested in biomimetic catalysis, homogeneous catalysis, energy storage and energy conversion. This position is an excellent opportunity for a motivated researcher seeking interdisciplinary training in inorganic synthesis and electrochemical energy storage.

Minimum Education Required
Doctorate (Academic) in synthetic bio-inorganic chemistry or related chemistry field with a Major in chemistry.

  • Synthesis and characterization of organic, inorganic, and organometallic compounds
  • Analytical techniques such as NMR, X-ray crystallography, and mass spectrometry
  • Thermodynamics and kinetics related to electrochemistry, molecular recognition, and catalysis

Desired:

Experience in inorganic complex synthesis under inert atmosphere conditions and characterizations of inorganic complexes with spectroscopic techniques such as NMR, IR, EPR, XAS, ESI-MS together with growing single crystals for X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Experience in mechanistic study through characterization of reactive intermediate at low temperature (-40 to -80 ?C) with different solution techniques such as UV-Vis and solution in-situ IR is desired. Experience in organic synthesis to design and characterize ligand molecules is desired. Demonstrated technical writing skills and effective communication are strongly desired.

Applicants should apply by email including a CV, research summery, and contact information of three references to Shiyu (zhang.8941@osu.edu ).
