Job Description

Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for an open rank tenure track faculty position within the School of Hospitality beginning Fall 2023. This nine-month faculty appointment in the Rita & Navin Dimond Department of Hotel Management is focused upon teaching, advising, scholarship, and service. The position is responsible for cultivating a learning environment for industry-bound students and those who wish to pursue graduate studies. Additionally, interaction with professional community members through ongoing liaison and participation in local and national chapters of a major event and meeting professional associations will be an ongoing responsibility.

Duties/Responsibilities

This position requires teaching courses in the required curriculum for the BS in Event and Meeting Management degree (e.g., Event Project Planning, Event Catering Systems, Trade Show and Exhibition Management, Special Event Production, etc.) and other hospitality and tourism courses as needed. The position will also create new courses in experience design and experience management. The School of Hospitality is pleased to offer a differentiated teaching workload, which may include teaching evening and/or online classes. The instructor will combine classroom and experiential learning and effectively integrate technology into coursework, research, and advising. The instructor will also advise at the undergraduate level, actively serve as a faculty advisor to student organizations, provide service to the University and community, and fulfill other assigned duties as requested by the Department Chair.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and fostering relationships with the economy’s meeting, event, and hospitality sectors. It is expected that these relationships will lead to professional opportunities for students and SOH faculty research outlets. The successful candidate must be student-oriented and possess strong leadership skills conducive to building premier undergraduate and graduate programs within the Dimond department.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Hospitality Administration, or related field. Advanced ABD candidates are welcome to apply, however the degree must be conferred prior to the start of appointment.
  • Previous industry-related experience
  • An emerging or proven record of research, grant/alternative funding productivity in the Meeting, Event, Hospitality, and/or Tourism Management
  • Ability to inspire diverse students with a sense of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Teaching experience or evidence of potential for teaching excellence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of industry relevant experience
  • Active membership in at least one national/international professional event or meeting association
  • Three years of teaching or training experience both classroom-based and online, with preference given to candidates with evidence of successful teaching in an institution of higher education
  • Current and valid industry certifications
  • Experience planning meetings, conventions, or trade shows in an international environment
  • Industry or teaching experience in event design
