Associate Research Scholar

Princeton University

Job Description

Princeton Bioengineering Initiative - Innovators (PBI2), Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship program The School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at Princeton University invites applications for the Princeton Bioengineering Initiative - Innovators (PBI2), Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellows program, with positions starting in Fall 2023. These fellows work with two or more Princeton faculty to establish an interdisciplinary research plan for bioengineering projects to be performed as part of the growing Princeton Bioengineering Initiative (PBI). New collaborations between faculty across SEAS and PBI are encouraged. We particularly welcome projects that seek to develop novel technologies, and utilize new tools for addressing fundamental questions about living systems, and/or harnessing these systems for applications. Why you should apply: *Dual faculty mentors and interdisciplinary research program: Obtain the benefits of traditional postdoctoral training, but with the opportunity for dual mentorship across different labs and disciplines. *Pathway to independence: Fellows gain experience in guiding their own new research directions, including managing a research budget of up to $25,000 per year. *Play a leadership role in building Princeton's rapidly growing BioE program, including helping to advance new programming, host speakers, and expand our community. *Career development: Interact with others in the PBI2 cohort, and in Princeton's broader BioE community, around career development, managing family/work life balance, how to establish productive collaborations, and navigating the faculty job search. Appointments are anticipated for three years, with renewal each year contingent upon satisfactory performance. Fellows will hold the rank of associate research scholar and be provided a $70,000 initial salary with generous yearly increases, standard University benefits, annual research allowance, conference travel, etc. Eligible candidates must have received their Ph.D. in a related field (e.g. Bioengineering and other Engineering fields, Quantitative Biology, Physics, Chemistry) no later than two years prior to the anticipated start date. Preference will be given to candidates just completing their Ph.D., who are not currently affiliated with Princeton University. Applicants should identify two or more Princeton faculty with whom they envision productive potential collaboration (a list of BioE-affiliated faculty can be found at: https://bioengineering.princeton.edu/people/faculty), although PBI2 fellows are given the flexibility to decide who to work with in their first year at Princeton. Applicants are welcome and encouraged to reach out to potential faculty mentors. The Princeton Bioengineering Initiative is committed to diversity and making the field more equitable and inclusive. With this in mind, we will take into consideration personal experiences, as well as efforts in education, outreach or other service activities related to bioengineering or other sciences. Applicants are encouraged to describe such experiences and their commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the cover letter. This position is subject to the University's background check policy. More complete details and additional information can be found through the Princeton University academic jobs site https://puwebp.princeton.edu/AcadHire/position/28141. Applications must be completed by December 15, 2022, 11:59pm EST, for full consideration. Questions about the fellowships may be directed to Assistant Director of Bioengineering Michael Checkovage, mcheckovage@princeton.edu. Princeton University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
