The Opportunity

The Division of Physical Therapy at UCF resides within the SKPT, which is housed within the College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS). The CHPS is a core component of the newly established UCF Academic Health Sciences Center along with the College of Medicine, College of Nursing, UCF Health, and UCF Student Health.

The Division of Physical Therapy within the School of Kinesiology and Physical Therapy (SKPT) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is pleased to invite applications for an open-rank, assistant professor (tenure-earning), associate professor, or professor (tenured) position in Physical Therapy. This will be a 9-month appointment with a projected start date of August 2023.

The Division of Physical Therapy is housed within the College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS). CHPS is a core component of the newly established UCF Academic Health Sciences Center along with the College of Medicine, College of Nursing, UCF Health, and UCF Student Health.

The Division of Physical Therapy offers the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree that is accredited by CAPTE, Graduate Certificate in Anatomical Sciences, Neurological Residency Program, and faculty practice. The SKPT also includes the Division of Kinesiology, which offers a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Kinesiology, and the Division of Athletic Training, which offers an M.S. in Athletic Training. The research infrastructure of SKPT is led through the Institute of Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation Sciences, which spans over 16,000 sq. ft of facilities and includes numerous essential, applied clinical and community research laboratories (https://healthprofessions.ucf.edu/kpt/institute/ ). SKPT also has existing clinical partnerships with outside healthcare agencies and clinical relationships with UCF Student Health Services, UCF Athletics, and UCF Sports Science.

The UCF DPT program has a small-to-medium-sized student cohort (<40). It boasts numerous partnerships involving hospital organizations and rehabilitation clinics for research and scholarly activity. The program maintains outstanding student outcomes for licensure pass rates and scores, substantive involvement in professional duties, community engagement, and research (https://healthprofessions.ucf.edu/kpt/physicaltherapy/ ).

The successful candidate will be a core faculty member in the UCF DPT program and contribute to excellence in physical therapy education through dedication to distinction in research, teaching, service, and mentorship of students to advance the program, college, and university mission. Candidates must demonstrate the ability (assistant professor) or an established record (associate professor or professor) of extramural funding and peer-reviewed publications. There is an expectation for creating synergies with existing researchers and collaborators within the university, community partners, and external academic or industry partners to strengthen current research. There is also an expectation for a senior (associate professor or professor) candidate to serve as a research mentor for DPT and Ph.D. students and faculty. Such responsibilities may include developing and coordinating a DPT/Ph.D. dual degree program in collaboration between the Division of Physical Therapy and the Division of Kinesiology.  As a diverse institution we center access, belonging, and diverse perspectives. Minimum Qualifications

  • Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a physical therapist in the state of Florida.

  • A Ph.D. in Kinesiology, Rehabilitation Science or something similar, from an accredited institution.

  • For a tenure-earning assistant professor position, the applicant must have a distinct area of research focus with appropriate training to demonstrate a high potential for scholarly productivity, including the ability to secure extramural funding.

  • For a tenured associate professor or professor position, candidates must have an existing, distinguished record of scholarly achievement and a commitment to maintaining an upward research trajectory that is commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of an associate professor or professor at UCF.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nationally recognized research agenda supported by a record of extramural funding.

  • Research focus that is synergistic with the Institute of Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation Sciences.

  • Experience with professional education in a CAPTE-accredited DPT program.
