Position: H.E. Garrett Endowed Chair Professor and Director, Center for Agroforestry (www.centerforagroforestry.org ), The School of Natural Resources (snr.missouri.edu ). This is a 9-month tenure-track appointment. Faculty Rank (Associate or Full) and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

Responsibilities: 

Administration - The incumbent will hold the title, H. E. Garrett Endowed Professor of Agroforestry and Director, University of Missouri, Center for Agroforestry. This Center, located in the School of Natural Resources, is a hallmark of interdisciplinary research and employs 11 scientists and staff and is widely recognized for its excellence. The Center is provided office and laboratory space by the University but is dependent upon extramural funding for operating dollars. It is the responsibility of the Endowed Professor and Director to provide leadership in the procurement of funding and in guiding the Center's research efforts. 

Research - The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally-recognized extramurally funded agroforestry research program in his/her specialized field. The Center's research program is supported by two outlying Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) research farms. The Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Farm, New Franklin, MO, is a 660-acre research farm consisting primarily of Missouri River hills loess soils but has more than 250 acres of floodplain to support diverse research efforts (e.g., it contains sophisticated outdoor drought simulation and flood tolerance laboratories, and major germplasm collections of pecan, black walnut, hybridized hazelnut and chestnut). The Land of the Osages Research Farm, Laurie, MO, is a 510 acre farm located in the Missouri Ozarks consisting primarily of oak-hickory forest, including rare glade ecosystems, along with ~80 acres of warm season grass prairie. Research relating to all temperate-zone agroforestry practices is represented across these and other outlying AES farms. The position will strengthen growing interdisciplinary education, research and outreach programs, enhance capability of winning major grants and forming innovative new partnerships with private and public partners, and contribute greatly toward improving grant and publication metrics considered in the AAU rankings. 

Teaching - The incumbent is expected to teach a dual level (4000/7000) undergraduate/graduate online course in agroforestry and develop an online graduate level course (8000 level) in an area related to the successful candidate's expertise that would complement current course offerings in agroforestry. The incumbent is also expected to advise graduate students (MS and PhD) and postdoctoral research associates. The Center currently offers on campus and online master's degrees in agroforestry along with an online graduate certificate. 
 

Minimum Qualifications - A Ph.D. is required, with at least one degree in natural resources, agroforestry, agroecology , or a related area.

Candidates will be evaluated on - Administrative experience is highly desirable along with demonstrated leadership abilities. The successful candidate should have national recognition as a scientist in agroforestry or a closely related discipline, with a proven track record in refereed, peer-reviewed publications and extramural grant support.
