Dr. John Yu is looking for a Project Scientist to join a dynamic team!

Research in the Yu Laboratory is focused on immunotherapy for brain tumors, the cancer stem cell and its microenvironment in brain tumors, cancer stem cell–specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes, cancer stem cell signaling, the mechanism of cancer invasion, and targeted immunochemotherapy using nanotechnology. The Project Scientist works independently and in cooperation with the Principal Investigator to make significant and creative contributions to a research or creative project in any academic field. The position may be an ongoing member of a research team or may be employed for a limited period of time to contribute high-level skills to a specific research program. This role is not required to carry out independent research or to develop an independent research reputation and do not have teaching responsibilities. Ordinarily, this position will carry out research or creative programs as well as administration of day-to-day lab operations with supervision by a member of the Professorial Series.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the preparation of grant proposals, submissions, publications, and presentations but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
  • May serve as PI for certain grants.
  • Participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
  • Develops, adapts and implements new techniques and protocols.
  • Assists in lab experiments, analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.
  • May lead or train Staff Research Associates and Research Fellows.
  • Appointees on an academic trajectory will be encouraged to commit a portion of their time to developing an independent range of research.

Department-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop immunotherapy protocols to target glioma cancer stem cells.
  • Identify mechanisms to enable immunologic targeting of cancer stem cells.
  • Coordinate manufacture and immunologic assays for activated T cell clinical trial.

Education:

  • PhD or highest degree in Biology, Pharmacology, or Immunology/Immunotherapy is required.

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 3 years as a Postdoctoral Fellow.
  • Molecular and Cellular Biology experience is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated significant contributions to a research program.
  • Knowledge of PI’s area of research specialization (brain cancer, tumor immunology, and T cell mechanism).
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in performing high-level research.

Physical Demands:

Position requires working with microscopes and computers for extended periods of time and the use of specialized laboratory equipment.  Must be able to sit, stand and/or stoop for long periods of time.  Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds.
