Job Summary:

This position will work in the Plasma Physics group with particular attention in the area of confinement of fusion plasma in open magnetic systems. Provides technical expertise in a fast-paced scientific research and development program. Contributes scientifically to implementation of experimental apparatus; conducts experiments collaboratively with students and postdoctoral researchers; publishes work in peer-reviewed journals and disseminates results at conferences.

Responsibilities: Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs and supervises research, and prepares and presents results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications. May supervise staff.
  • 25% Identifies research problems and develops highly complex research methodologies and procedures. Publishes and presents results to help advance research
  • 20% Collects and analyzes highly complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • 10% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials and, disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • 10% Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
  • 10% Identifies, writes, or assists in developing grant opportunities, grant applications, and proposals to secure research funding
  • 10% May supervise the day-to-day activities of a research unit and staff and resolve routine personnel issues
  • 10% Serves as an institutional subject matter expert and liaison with key internal and external stakeholders providing expert level information and representing the interests of a specialized research area
  • 5% Monitors program budget and approves unit expenditures

Education:

Required
Terminal Degree
Ph.D. in plasma physics or related field is required.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 3 years of experience in experimental plasma physics research with a particular emphasis on confinement of fusion plasmas in open magnetic systems is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of standard plasma diagnostics and analysis techniques is required.
Understanding of externally applied controls of fusion plasmas including bias-induced rotation, electron cyclotron heating and/or neutral beam injection is required.

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $80,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
