Job Description:

The Brown University’s School of Engineering had an exciting opportunity for a Research Manager, Deans’ Office.

Major Responsibilities

The Research Manager, Deans’ Office acts as the primary liaison between the Dean of the School of Engineering and the Senior Associate Dean of the School of Engineering and research related faculty, in School and University staff, postdoctoral research associates, graduate and undergraduate students and external partners. The incumbent will support the both the research administration and science of the Dean Desai’s research focused on designing new platforms, enabled by advancements in micro and nanotechnology, to overcome existing challenges in therapeutic delivery; and Senior Associate Dean Toussaint’s focuses on developing novel quantitative optical techniques to facilitate non-invasive tissue imaging.

The incumbent provides project management; laboratory support; and the training of new researchers for lab safety and to ensure compliance with University policy and procedures and funder requirements.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree and 5-7 years experience in a STEM field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s in STEM, or Master’s degree with concurrent research experience is preferred.

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.

Computer proficiency in word processing, data management and spreadsheets (Excel and Google Sheets)

Initiative and judgment to independently problem solve and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment while maintaining careful attention to detail.  Previous lab management experience preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all constituents, both internal and external.

Ability to maintain confidence and discretion in sensitive financial and personnel matters related to laboratory activities.

Ability to work and communicate effectively independently and in a team environment.

Computing skills sufficient for effective communication, maintaining records, open to learning new tools.

Knowledge of compliance issues related to federal research contracts and grants preferred.

Detail orientated with a high level of accuracy.

Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
