Assistant Professor, Biology 

Description

 

The University of Houston-Clear Lake invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology, beginning Fall, 2023. Individuals with training and experience in the areas of plant or animal cellular physiology, biochemistry or related field are sought.

Duties:

  • Teach nine credit hours per semester (3:3 teaching load) comprised of undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) courses within his/her specialization area and develop other courses to meet the needs of the Biology program related to the candidate’s teaching interest and strengths.
  • Establish a research program in a Biology related area involving undergraduate and graduate students. Submit research and other grants to external agencies. Work with external partners, such as NASA and surrounding institutes/companies in research collaboration and opportunities for students.
  • Advise master’s level graduate students on theses and projects as well as supervise undergraduate student research.
  • Contribute to University and Departmental committees and to professional organizations. Work with the faculty colleagues to maintain and improve the Biology Program, support accreditation continuous improvement processes and perform related duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching across the various areas of Biology.
  • Demonstrated experience developing appropriate externally funded and publishable research studies.
  • Ability to teach effectively, including in an active learning environment with some focus on theoretical and applied knowledge of experimental Biology.
  • Ability to establish a research program that will engage UHCL undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty in Biology and other disciplines as well as to engage a diverse student body in and out of the classroom.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Desired:

    Doctoral Degree in the field of Biology, Biochemistry or related field.

    Teaching and research experience in biochemistry or related field.

    Postdoctoral experience and a demonstrated record of teaching excellence.

    Practical experience with industry or government.
