The Department of Engineering Technology at College of Technology is seeking candidates for a tenure-track assistant/associate professor position with a nine-month academic appointment starting Fall 2023. We welcome applicants with expertise across a wide variety of research areas, such as (1) system dynamics, control, and automation with applications in mechatronics and robotics (2) design of advanced manufacturing systems, (3) material science, and (4) renewable energy. The successful candidate is required to work in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment across departments and colleges.

About Engineering Technology (ET) & the College of Technology (CoT)
The CoT is one of the fastest growing colleges at the University of Houston, and with over 5,200 students it is the 4th largest college on campus. As per the American Society of Engineering Education’s (ASEE) 2020 report, CoT is #1 in total number of engineering technology (ET) enrollment and total number of degrees awarded, #1 in total number of ET degrees awarded to underrepresented minorities (44.2% of total degrees awarded by CoT) and #1 in total number of ET degrees awarded to women. The ET department which houses BS and MS programs in computer engineering technology, electrical power engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, and biotechnology is committed to workforce development, community enrichment, and corporate progress. CoT is a member of the AI Innovation Consortium, a US-based think tank of IT thought leaders focused on building standards and best practices that help drive AI adoption, evolve privacy, data governance and bias, guiding principles and effectively align AI evolution to propel organizations and communities forward.

We seek a colleague who can contribute to the success and growth of our applied research-oriented program and must demonstrate an outstanding scholarly record of research, exhibited by high-impact peer-reviewed publications and a forward-looking research agenda that will secure competitive external funding. Starting January 2023, the College of Technology will merge with the Cullen College of Engineering to bring better outcomes for our students and better opportunities for our faculty/staff to meet our research and service mission.

Following the vision of University of Houston (UH) Chancellor and President Renu Khator, the College of Technology is beginning its journey to the Sugar Land campus. The College of Technology (CoT) building opened at UH at Sugar Land in 2019, featuring state-of-the-art labs, classrooms, and meeting spaces. A recent legislative session approved funding for a second CoT building at UH at Sugar Land. The expectation is that all CoT programs and departments will be at Sugar Land by 2025.

Qualifications

: 

A Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering or related areas is required.  Postdoctoral and/or industry experience is preferred.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop dynamic, innovative, and independent research programs supported by external funding in areas of their research and/or educational expertise and contribute to academic and professional service. Candidates will also be expected to integrate their research with education and engage in curriculum development, developing new courses or updating existing ones. Candidates will be expected to excel in teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses and contribute to the continuous improvement and outcome-based assessment and accreditation of the program.
