Position Summary

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) invites applications from outstanding candidates for a fixed term research associate position in the areas of molecular dynamics and high performance computing (HPC). The successful candidate will be supervised by Prof. Aktulga (CSE) and Prof. Merz (Chemistry). The duties include (but are not limited to):

  • development of novel methods for free energy calculations,
  • development of hybrid classical, ML, reactive and quantum MD models,
  • performance optimization of resulting software for multicore and/or GPU clusters.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Computer Science, Computational Chemistry, Biology or Physics


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Science, Computational Chemistry, Biology or Physics with graduate or postdoctoral experience in molecular dynamics, high performance computing and scientific software development.


Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Strong programming skills using FORTRAN, C/C++, Python and Tensorflow
  • Prior experience with MPI and GPU programming, as well as performance optimization 
  • Force field optimization
  • Ability to work with undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and staff in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English
