Description

The Department of Statistics at The University of Chicago invites applications for a Senior Instructional Professor rank position to assist with the Computational and Applied Mathematics (CAM) undergraduate major program. The selected candidate will be appointed as Assistant Senior Instructional Professor, Associate Senior Instructional Professor, or Senior Instructional Professor, with rank determined by qualifications. The appointment will be for a term of up to five years, renewable. This is a career-track position with competitive salary and benefits.

The CAM undergraduate major was established at the University of Chicago in 2014 as an interdisciplinary major between the mathematics, statistics and computer science departments, and the Department of Statistics recently led a successful hiring initiative in computational and applied mathematics, which led to the formation of the Committee on Computational and Applied Mathematics . In addition to teaching courses within the major, position responsibilities will include serving as Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Computational and Applied Mathematics major, and leading, in consultation with a faculty committee, the design, development, implementation, and academic administration of the undergraduate curriculum in CAM. Other duties include meeting with students to advise them on course sequences, course selection, and prerequisites, providing academic and career advice to students, and supervising teaching personnel.
