The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for a portfolio of major gifts prospects and donors, as assigned by the Director of Major and Planned Giving. The person in this role implements a coordinated moves management matrix of communication, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies involving email, direct mail, phone/mail, personal visitation focused on closing major gifts to support Overlake Hospital’s funding priorities.

  • Work with Director of Major and Planned Giving to implement and realize annual goals and objectives for the major and planned giving programs. Advance an active portfolio of donors for major and planned giving.
  • Aggressively identify, cultivate, steward, and solicit major donor prospects. Work closely with board members, key donors, physicians, and volunteers to connect current and potential donors to Overlake.
  • Conduct visits, other high-level interactions, and personal solicitations with prospects, documenting actions as appropriate. Prepare correspondence and proposals.
  • Plan and participate in major and planned giving fundraising events, cultivation events, or other events as required. Identify, recruit, and support hosts and prospects for cultivation and fundraising events.
  • Work with Donor Systems Coordinator to integrate prospect identification, research and tracking systems into Raiser’s Edge and ensure up-to-date tracking of major gift prospects and gift proposals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum five years of development experience required with 2 years major gifts experience preferred. Experience in health care fundraising preferred. Experience with high net-worth individuals preferred.
  • Proven skills with moves management techniques in a not-for-profit setting preferred
  • Proven track record of structuring, soliciting and closing major gifts
  • Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of initiative with excellent, independent follow through
  • Knowledge of techniques and sources for prospect research
  • Ability to interact effectively and in a professional manner with a wide array of people at all levels of the organization
  • Self-motivated, organized and goal-oriented team player, capable of managing several projects at once. Meets deadlines consistently
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office software and fund raising database systems, The Raiser’s Edge preferred
