Position Summary

The Program Director will support the Law School Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Team by collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders to assess potential barriers and develop strategies to promote a culture of inclusion and belonging where individuals from all racial and ethnic identities, ages, nationalities, social and economic status, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, religious, political, ideological perspectives, and physical and mental abilities are able to thrive and be engaged in advancing DEI as a critical component of social, academic, professional, and intellectual life. This position will support the creation, development, and implementation of proactive DEI initiatives at the Law School in support of the law school’s strategic plan and University mission to create a learning environment where each member of our community has an opportunity to succeed.

The position reports to the Assistant Dean of Students & Diversity as well as to the Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and is responsible for growing and managing all aspects of diversity programming and initiatives. The Program Director will primarily be responsible for the growth, development, and management of the REAL Scholars program and will have some responsibility for new programs not yet developed. Further, the Director will collaborate on the IDEAL pipeline program with the existing Program Manager to ensure program enhancement and sustainability of the pipeline program.

Essential Functions

REAL Program

  • Administers REAL Scholars program including the identifying potential candidates, developing and managing information sessions, responsiveness to questions relating to the program and managing all aspects of the onboarding process.
  • Develops strategy for enhancement and expansion of the REAL Scholars program.
  • Meets with key stakeholders and donors for all DEI programs and initiatives and provide regular updates on program achievements including data to support future gifts.
  • Develops programming for the REAL Scholars pre-orientation program and for programming that will occur during the academic year.
  • Identifies and procures faculty, speakers and panelists for programs.
  • Meets with and supports donors and key stakeholders to develop funding streams for the program.
  • Plans and implements the pre-orientation program curriculum to include academic, community building and social events for student participants.
  • Develops reports and analytics relating to program success and develop program enhancements to accommodate program growth and reports back to donors and key stakeholders.
  • Develops programming for retreats and activities and draft surveys for post-retreat distribution and evaluation.
  • Synthesizes information gained from Fall semester surveys and integrates relevant information into a report for future program enhancements.
  • Hires, trains and manages the REAL TAs and Peer Mentors throughout the Fall and Spring semesters and ensures compliance with program requirements and responsibilities.
  • Collaborates with MARCOM to maintain marketing and media platforms including program website and corporate site.
  • Develops and manages all-participants advising panels twice each semester to provide support for their academic performance and professional endeavors.
  • Manages the faculty-mentor component of the program and liaise with faculty to ensure counseling requirements are met.
  • Tracks REAL student attendance and performance, and timely alerts the administration of any issues or concerns.
  • Engages in crisis management and advance problem-solving skills in counseling at-risk students.
  • Collects comprehensive data and engage in a detailed analysis of REAL program findings for outcome assessment purposes.
  • Drafts and distributes annual reports for each cohort of the REAL program.
  • Composes surveys to obtain and report on student feedback for the REAL program.
  • Drafts marketing and communications materials in support of the REAL Scholars program.
  • Maintains ultimate responsibility for all aspects of the REAL program.

IDEAL Program:

  • Collaborates with the Program Manager to develop and implement an expansion plan for the IDEAL Pipeline program with a national strategy focusing on HBCUs.
  • Supports recruitment strategies, outreach and road show presentations focusing on Fordham University and schools within the CUNY system for the IDEAL Program during the application period which spans from December – April.
  • Participates in the selection and onboarding process for IDEAL students and plan program details in collaboration with the Program Manager.
  • Meets with and supports donors and key stakeholders to develop funding streams for the program.
  • Collaborates with the ongoing programming for IDEAL participants which may include the monitoring of participation in sponsored LSAT prep program, CLEO program attendance, managing placements in summer internships and monitoring coursework related to the program.
  • Analyzes in conjunction with the Program Manager comprehensive data of IDEAL program findings for outcome assessment purposes.
  • Assists with the drafting and distribution of annual reports for each cohort of the IDEAL program.

1L Spring Orientation:

  • Assists with the drafting and distribution of annual reports for each cohort of the IDEAL program.
  • Identifies and vets prospective DEI experts to present to the first-year class.
  • Develops programming and surveys for the DEI components of the spring orientation program (Day and Evening surveys).
  • Compiles programs and resources for the speaker of the Law in Practice elective series.
  • Finalizes the registration and assignment of student elective sessions.
  • Develops and implements student surveys for all DEI related programs, trainings, and workshops.

Additional Functions

  • Ensures the successful implementation of all diversity program protocols and responds to and is responsible for providing services to donors, alumni and current and prospective students as well as to students who are participating in the various programs.
  • Works collaboratively and collegially with colleagues in various Law School centers and departments to plan and implement programs and initiatives throughout the Law School.
  • Researches and identifies topical coverage for a variety of DEI programs including the REAL Scholars program, the IDEAL program, Dialogue Day, the Dean’s Advisory Council, and other programs.
  • Timely responds to student inquiries regarding DEI programs, initiatives, and events.
  • Actively leads and facilitates affinity group meetings and programs.
  • Proactively guides the faculty, administration, staff, and students on DEI training, programs, initiatives, and events.
  • Expertly organizes and leads the wellness aspects of all DEI-related programs, initiatives, and events.
  • Recruits and trains qualified students for DEI programs, initiatives, and events.
  • Professionally counsels and supports current students on issues relating to equity and inclusion.
  • Collaborates with the Sr. Director of DEI to plan and administer diversity training sessions for all students and student organizations.
  • Assists with advising and training faculty and staff on DEI matters.
  • Ensures overall team support and Office of Student Affairs protocols.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate degree required. Juris Doctor or working experience with U. S. legal system required.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience in a similar position.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Collaborative and collegial work ethic.
  • Service and detail orientated.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.
