Prevention Services is working to create and sustain a caring community that prepares students to succeed academically, professionally, and personally and to become informed, engaged, and productive citizens. This position contributes to that goal by directly educating students in prevention strategies related to available mental health and prevention resources on campus, coordinating with campus partners to support at risk populations, advising the Mental Health Ambassadors, while focusing on decreasing stigma around help-seeking on campus.
This staff member will be responsible for the development and delivery of a comprehensive program of prevention strategies, peer education programs and a particular focus on mental health programming and collaboration.
Essential Job Duties
- Ensure prevention programs are fully engaged in, compliant with, and leading national best practices
- Review programming to ensure inclusivity for students, staff, and faculty
- Primary role is to assist in the development and presentation of prevention education programming and training to the campus community
- Identify student populations and needs to better understand the attitudes, habits, and environmental risk factors within our community
- Assist in the delivery of a comprehensive suicide prevention training program for students, faculty, and staff this includes training in QPR and Mental Health First Aid
- Coordinate with Outreach Coordinator to research and maintain current website information related to outreach and assist Communications Specialist by offering social media resources
- Engage in program development and delivery of campus events including, but not limited to, Packapalooza, Wolfpack Welcome Weeks, Fresh Check Day, Exam week events and Orientation
- Build relationships with national and local outreach and prevention organizations, listservs, and conferences
- Serve on university-wide and/or departmental committees as appropriate and requested by director
- Assist with the coordination of the Mental Health Ambassadors program
- Collaborate with Outreach Coordinator to complete annual reports and other assessment report needs
- Create and maintain liaison relationships with identified campus partners, in collaboration with the Outreach Coordinator, to further the message of prevention education across campus
- Cross collaborate with other prevention areas to provide seamless programing through intersection of topics such as alcohol, drugs, IPV and wellness as examples
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s degree required, in relevant field, Counselor Education, Social Work, Psychology, Higher Education Admin
- Successful candidates will be multiculturally affirming and possess competence and experience in working with diverse populations
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team-oriented environment.
Other Required Qualifications
- Experience in developmentally focused psycho-education
- Experience in a university environment
- Experience and comfort with public speaking, including addressing large groups
- Strong written communication skills
- Expertise in the area of outreach, prevention education; mental health clinical experience or background
