ORU Learning Resources encompass over one half million titles, including more than 460,000 book titles (of which over 230,000 are electronic); nearly 37,000 audio-visual items; and over 50,000 journal titles, most of which are available online digitally. The University serves 4,153 number of students on campus and 901 online, in the U.S. and around the world.

JOB DESCRIPTION
- FULL TIME

The Dean of the University Library at ORU will provide innovative and strategic leadership to fulfill the foremost purpose of learning resources for students pursuing undergraduate and graduate programs on campus and online around the world. This Dean will have the exciting challenge of opening and bringing innovation to the new J.D. McKean Library, currently under construction. The Dean will understand and value the unique mission of ORU: To develop Holy Spirit-empowered leaders through whole person education to impact the world. Committed to the university goal of leadership development of all students, the Dean will contribute to learning success and overall degree completion.

RESPONSIBLITIES

Additional goals and responsibilities for the Dean will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Reports to the University Provost and serves on the Academic Council while acting in coordination with other regional library systems to fulfill the University Adaptive Plan and its strategic goals and KPls, with a focus on the needs of 2030 and beyond;

  • Support faculty colleagues to provide excellent and innovative teaching tools and academic research resources;

  • Embrace the academic research needs of the University's diverse student population comprising 115 nations and all 50 states;

  • Be a technology-minded leader in managing the complex and evolving landscape potentials of print and digital academic collections, including AR/VR simulations;

  • Show thought-leadership in lifting the University's academic presence regionally and globally, through professional, collaborative endeavors;

  • Build and maintain a management team that supports the goals and commitments of the University to the student lifecycle-from recruitment through graduation;

  • Lead a service-oriented culture of consistent improvement, committed to planning, assessing, and innovating;

  • Continuously assess, identify, and meet the needs of faculty and students while expediting services;

  • Optimize the Library budget to assure the excellence of services provided;

  • Lead and support special projects of significance and other responsibilities upon demand.

  • Develop and implement capital-raising campaigns and strategies which may include grant-writing and fund-raising

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Must posses a masters degree in a related field. Preference will be given to individuals who hold a doctorate and/or MLIS degree.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Applicants should have five years of experience managing a library or library department..
  • Interested individuals, should submit a curriculum vitae and a letter of application that demonstrates minimum qualifications to the above stated goals.
  • Ability to determine University faculty members resource needs in consultation with the college deans.
  • Must have knowledge of:
    • Student services operations
    • Principles and functions;
    • Procedures/policies/mandates in student development, student activities and service learning.
  • Requires ability to respond to inquiries, resolve complex issues and write and speak effectively and make presentations, and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must have demonstrated ability to work in a team and provide and have leadership skills. Proficiency with office technology is required.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality of information.
