POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Development Director is responsible for the strategies and implementation necessary to advance the organization’s fundraising objectives. An experienced fundraising professional, the Senior Director of Development will supervise the development team of 4 and work with a robust fundraising infrastructure to meet the overall annual fundraising budget of $1.8 million. The position is responsible for all donor development functions, including individual giving, foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, and large-scale events.

The Senior Director of Development is a strategic leader, developing an annual development plan that executes and builds upon its two annual events, existing corporate and foundation funding relationships, and engaged individual donors. The ideal candidate has experience in developing strategies for increasing the organization’s revenue and deep expertise in donor stewardship and cultivation. The position will manage and mentor the development and events staff and regularly report to and interact with the organization’s Board of Directors.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Responsible for developing and leading the long-term and annual strategic plan for a diversified funding stream, including individual giving, foundations, corporate sponsorships, and large-scale events.
  • Develop and manage an annual budget and monitor expenditures and revenue throughout the year to ensure compliance with budget.
  • Work to ensure ongoing revenue growth with strategic focus on retaining and upgrading donors while building a robust pipeline of prospects.
  • Manage, lead, and develop fund development and fundraising events staff.
  • Regularly attend board meetings and report accurate, timely and appropriate data.

Fundraising

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships, and identify new opportunities for partnerships and sponsorships. Research and develop new sources of corporate sponsorships.
  • Develops and implements a planned approach to foundations whose areas of interest coincide with those of AbilityFirst; develops effective working relationships with foundation staff to develop specific proposals for their consideration.
  • Engagement of regular face-to-face visits, and center tours with current donors, lapsed and prospective donors.
  • Ensure that all major donors, regardless of revenue channel, have a high quality, increasingly personalized experience, including phone calls and thank you acknowledgement.
  • Manage fundraising direct mail campaigns, including direct mail vendors.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships, and identify new opportunities for partnerships and sponsorships.

Events Management

  • Develop appropriate event programming, content, plans and timelines for all pre-event planning sessions in collaboration with marketing team and contract event planner.
  • Coordinate the creation, production and distribution of all event marketing collateral and digital fundraising in collaboration with marketing team.
  • Develop, control, and administer special events operational budget and ensure it is prudently managed.
  • Provide and prepare reporting on statistical analysis of events.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of six (6) years of nonprofit fund development experience.
  • Successful track record of engaging, cultivating, and stewarding relationships with corporate, foundation and individual donors.
  • History of overseeing fundraising events including the management, coordination, programming and analysis of these events.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • People leader that can successfully lead a diverse team of volunteers, creating a culture of inclusion and equity and inspiring a team.
  • Tech savvy with experience working with technology.
  • Communicates well (written and verbal), delivers presentations effectively, is a credible spokesperson to represent agency to public, has good listening skills.
  • Provides strong leadership, sets a good example, skilled decision maker, motivator, encourager.
  • Monitors status of projects, thoroughly deals with project details, holds project owners accountable, delivers clear and accurate depiction of status, strives to see projects to completion.
  • Meets deadlines, establishes appropriate priority, gets the job done in a timely manner.
  • Current California driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The Salary Range is $115,000- $150,000 per year depending on experience. Following an introductory period, the position is eligible for hybrid work with partial remote work from home, in-office position ln Pasadena, CA and in the community. Some travel will be required.
