Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, coordinating and executing public relations activities and events for the utility to promote a positive image including the launch of new initiatives and programs; assist with the development of promotional campaigns and long-range strategic marketing plans. *
  • Design and produce advertisements, promotional materials, print collateral, illustrations, logos, and photography for a wide variety of marketing materials and platforms. *
  • Develop or edit content for internal or external audiences including press releases, newsletter articles, websites, and social media pages. *
  • Assist with customer and media-related inquiries, requests, and correspondence. *
  • Oversee web and social media presence, development, appearance, and updates to ensure a consistent and engaging visual web presence; act as a steward of the brand look and feel and ensure that all communication channels represent the highest quality of visual standards. *
  • Collaborate with outside agencies, employees and other utility stakeholders to effectively drive communications and to ensure consistency of brand identity. *
  • Assist with community outreach development, public appearances, exhibits, etc., to increase awareness and promote goodwill. *
  • Research best practices, emerging technology, and industry trends; recommend strategies and activities for the utility to leverage these tools to support the communication plan. *
  • Coordinate and direct video and photography production featuring utility representatives, locations, and equipment; obtain maintain a library of digital images, graphics, and video files. *
  • Perform other duties as assigned.*

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible roles in public relations, journalism, marketing or related fields. Public relations or advertising experience is strongly desired.
  • Previous work experience using social media for marketing and/or communication.
  • Experience in graphic design is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, desktop publishing and additional related software.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, marketing communications, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Maintain an advanced level of interpersonal and public speaking skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, procedures, and strategies concerning public relations, communications, community relations, and marketing.

Conditions of Employment

All BPU employees, at the inception of their employment, shall have a period of 12 months after employment begins to establish and maintain a legal primary residence within the legally defined boundaries of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, KS.

Pay: $84,000.00 - $106,000.00 per year
