Special Olympics Washington is currently seeking an experienced Early Education Programs Manager to join our team in Washington.

Job Summary:
The position of Manager, Early Education Programs is designed to develop, implement, and manage the Special Olympics Washington early education programs and projects to help expand offerings to children with and without disabilities ages 2-8. This includes activation/use of the Young Athletes curriculum (provided by Special Olympics North America) in the community, preschool, and elementary schools. The manager will oversee community and school support, recruitment and retainment of programs, trainings, transition, and state level experiences and showcases. In addition to the Unified Champion Schools team, the manager will work with the Director of Health Programs on CDC required reporting and guidelines for Young Athletes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by management.

  • Manage community and school-based Young Athletes programs to ensure annual quality growth of programming across Washington state. Responsibilities include relationship building, growing the athlete base, training (teacher, student, and volunteer), event planning, communications, and budgeting
  • Build, structure and monitor all program outreach and strategic partnership development related to Young Athletes Programming in the community and within schools
  • Work alongside Program Development Managers for Young Athletes implementation into existing local programs and the Area Structure
  • Develop, implement, and maintain all programming within Elementary Unified Champion Schools to ensure quality programming for the three components - Unified Sports, Youth Leadership and Whole School Engagement.
  • Work with elementary schools to become self-sustaining Unified Champion Schools within three years of starting programming. Unified Sports programming could be Young Athletes, Developmental or Unified PE
  • Work with Community Partnerships and schools to ensure successful continuum of services for all athletes and partners into their next phase of Special Olympics.
  • Assist with young athlete and elementary school data gathering, reporting and end of year evaluation to support all grant reports and serve as liaison for Unified Champion Schools surveys with those schools.
  • Implement and maintain communication plan to ensure maintenance of information for website, calendar of events and all communications of young athletes and elementary schools initiatives
  • Responsible for management of all ‘My First Experiences’ where applicable
  • Create an early education focus group to identify family, school, local program, and child needs

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in early childhood development or related field OR; two to four years of applicable work experience
  • Proven ability to work with educators
  • Proven ability to recruit, manager and motivate volunteers
  • Ability to travel independently
  • Previous work within Special Olympics or professional experience working with children with ID or other disabilities is preferred.
  • Familiarity with early learning in school settings is a plus
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong event planning and execution background is a plus.
