Full Job Description
The Old Dominion University Research Foundation is seeking applications for a Sr. Director of Space Research and Science to perform work under the Virginia Institute for Spaceflight and Autonomy (VISA). The Sr. Director of Space Research and Science is expected to conduct basic and applied research in the areas of space and/or air-based satellites/platforms, sensors, and data collection/analysis for wide range of applications including, but not limited to, atmospheric and/or oceanographic characterizations, agricultural/aquacultural, and coastal resiliency. The incumbent will be responsible for proposal development and award project execution to include successful completion of project deliverables and reporting. The position will be located on the Virginia Eastern Shore.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct individual research, and/or lead research teams, on space and/or air-based satellites/platforms, sensors, and data collection/analysis.
- Identify and pursue, including preparation & submission of proposals, sponsored research opportunities across the federal government (DoD, NASA, NOAA), industry and other academic partners/collaborators.
- Prepare sponsor status reports/demonstrations as needed.
- Prepare internal progress reports as needed.
- Prepare and submit research papers and attend pertinent technical conferences.
- Support leadership in stakeholder and other events/activities as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required minimum qualifications
Education and/or training:
- PhD in aerospace engineering or atmospheric, oceanic or space sciences or related field
Level and type of experience:
- 10 years aerospace engineering or atmospheric, oceanic or space sciences or relevant academic, government, or industry experience.
Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities?
- Knowledge of space and air-based data collection platforms/sensors and data collection/analysis
- Demonstrated and successful sponsored research awards
Other:
- Willing to sign conflict of interest.
- Responsible for the ethical and professional conduct of all aspects of the project.
