Full Job Description

Provides leadership, supervision, and direction to a large team of academic advisors. Develops equity-minded programs that support student academic planning, student success and retention. Utilizes critical retention metrics for the purpose of sustaining a comprehensive system of student educational planning and support that creates a positive experience for students.

Manages the daily activities related to campus advising services; work involves planning, implementing, and evaluating departmental operations; coordinating assignments and caseload activities. Facilitates the development of annual goals and project plans relating to assigned areas and coordinates the development and implementation of those plans.

Hires, supervises, and evaluates academic advisors and front office staff by following established guidelines and departmental goals. Sets targets for individual and team success.

Develops and coordinates staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage of the center.

Develops, leads and conducts training and professional development to academic advisors to ensure compliance with case management guidelines and protocols.

Collaborates with departments throughout campus to ensure strong cross-departmental relationships with academic areas.

Directs the Standards of Academic Performance (SOAP) program including oversight of the SOAP run at the end of each term, evaluating SOAP policy and strategies for ongoing improvement.

Addresses academic standing issues associated with dismissal, suspension and reinstatement and makes recommendations to the Associate Dean.

Troubleshoots student/parent issues, concerns and complaints, collaborating with the Associate Dean when necessary.

Develops and revises service delivery processes; and ensuring that work is performed in compliance with current College, State, and Federal policies.

Oversees budgets affiliated with the Advising Services Center including technology and online/web-based resources.

Interprets the policies, goals, decisions, and expectations of the College for personnel in assigned areas and likewise promotes clarity of Student Development programs to other College constituents.

Plans and coordinates scheduling of staff to provide the best services for students during semesters, break periods and peak times.

Functions in advisory capacity to the Associate Dean of Student Development through regularly scheduled meetings. Writes reports, evaluates offerings, and provides recommendations.

Stays abreast of national, state, and local trends affecting assigned areas. Attends professional conferences, keeps current with best practices and shares information with colleagues.

Participates actively on institutional and divisional committees.

Assumes other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements: Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field.

Experience Requirements: Minimum of 3 years of advising experience and 2 years of supervisory experience at the community college level. Strong written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of student persistence theory, practice, and assessment.
