Professional Writing Tutor
Position Summary
Professional Tutors provide group and individual tutoring support to students, both individually, in small groups, online, and through Zoom for various levels of writing courses. Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan.
Essential Functions
- Provide tutoring support to participants completing basic college requirements.
- A sampling of the courses the tutor may be called upon to support are: college writing, elements of the essay, English composition, technical report writing, and more.
- Coordinate with various instructors to provide targeted and timely support.
- Provide exam reviews for students as needed.
- Prepare study guide hand-outs for students.
- Contribute to program planning and service enhancement efforts.
- Participate in periodic staff training and development provided by the College and/or the project.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Teaching experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be well organized, able to prioritize work and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to empathize with the students and respond appropriately.
- Ability to operate selected software programs relating to the position.
- Must have the ability to clearly articulate need-to-know information to student, staff and the public.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to interact successfully with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent oral and communication skills required.
Additional Information
This is a part time position up to 20 hours per week as needed. Part time employees earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked.
Pay: $21.01 per hour
