Behind every child who believes in their own potential is an adult who believed first.
Could that be you?

CHC is seeking to grow our team with passionate professionals who believe that:

  • every child who walks through CHC’s doors is filled with promise and potential (even if they don’t see it themselves).
  • differences are superpowers and kids are superheroes (even when they're in disguise).
  • if a child is struggling, a whole family is struggling, and we can offer them the first glimmer of hope they may have seen in a very long time.

By becoming a part of CHC, you have the unique opportunity to:

  • collaborate with some of the most renowned child and adolescent experts in the country.
  • be an instrument of healing, leading children, teens and young adults to roads filled with growth, promise and self-discovery.
  • leverage your own unique talents to change lives every day.

At CHC, we believe in the promise and potential of every child, teen and young adult. Our mission is to transform young lives by providing culturally responsive best-in-class learning and mental health services to families from diverse backgrounds regardless of language, location or ability to pay. We specialize in ADHD, Learning Differences, Anxiety & Depression and Autism.

We are currently seeking applications for two one-year, full-time postdoctoral fellowship positions at Children’s Health Council (CHC). Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, we are a premier, private, non-profit organization that provides life-changing mental health, educational and other allied health services to children, teens and families. We take a holistic approach to working with our clients.

CHC’s ideal postdoctoral candidate will have a solid foundation in both comprehensive assessment and therapy with a wide range of children, teens and young adults and will be strongly motivated to work with diverse and under-served populations. Interest and/or experience working in an interdisciplinary environment and providing empirically-supported therapeutic approaches such as CBT, TF-CBT, ACT and DBT approaches is valued.

Our postdoctoral fellows work primarily (70%) in our Community (MediCal-funded) Clinic and gain experience with: 1) comprehensive assessments on a multidisciplinary team and, 2) therapy with a wide range of clients (typically from 6-18), including both internalizing and externalizing disorders. The additional 30% of training takes place within our RISE Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which is operated in conjunction with Stanford’s Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department and involves co-leading DBT groups for teens and/or families.

Our postdoctoral fellows have the opportunity to experience working with a rich array of cases including children and teens with ADHD, Autism, Anxiety and Mood Disorders, Oppositional Disorders, and complex trauma, to name a few. Enhancing knowledge and sensitivity to multicultural factors as well as building upon knowledge and experience with empirically-supported practices (ESP) are key training goals. Learning how to adapt ESP’s to complex cases, clients from diverse backgrounds, and to a variety of ages and cognitive abilities is also a priority. Fellows receive intensive (four hours) clinical supervision on a weekly basis. As competencies are developed and demonstrated, gradually increasing autonomy and professional identity development is supported and promoted. The opportunity to participate in providing in-service trainings and parent education presentations/podcasts provides additional opportunities to develop and enhance one’s professional identity and communication skills.

We have a long history of providing training to doctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows in clinical psychology and we have a superb group of seasoned supervisors who are committed to training the next generation of ethical, culturally-sensitive, well-trained and informed, competent psychologists.

Qualifications: Our postdoctoral fellow will have completed an APA-accredited Ph.D. or Psy.D. Graduate program in clinical or counseling psychology and doctoral internship and have their doctoral degree prior to starting the fellowship. Bilingual applicants and applicants from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

Please submit a cover letter, CV, two de-identified sample assessment reports and three letters of recommendation to Racquel Cariaso at rcariaso@chconline.org

Applications: The current application deadline is January 13, 2023 and the start date is September 5th, 2023.
