Job Summary/Basic Function:

In realizing this commitment, we strive to create a culture in which faculty use data and inquiry to reflect on classroom practices and improve learning outcomes for students.As part of the Center for Transformative Teaching team in the Equity and Social Justice division, the Instructional Designer works directly with faculty in academic and technical programs in course design, delivery, and technology integration. The Instructional Designer works with the Director of Educational Technology and Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning in planning, implementing and assessing training for faculty teaching online, hybrid, livestream, hyflex, and face-to-face courses. The Designer emphasizes culturally responsive and inclusive pedagogy, accessibility, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and use of Open Educational Resources.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with and coach faculty in individual consultations and with departments or committees
  • Apply knowledge of effective pedagogy/andragogy, culturally responsive and inclusive instruction, instructional design processes and universal accessibility standards to identify areas for improvement in individual courses and across the curriculum
  • Facilitate training and create resources for faculty on using Open Educational Resources and Open Educational Practices.
  • Support the responsible, equitable, and effective integration of instructional technologies in online courses and in-person learning environments.
  • Develop, deliver, and assess training for teaching and learning with technology, with a focus on evidence-based instructional methods.
  • Develop clear and accessible online resources and guides for course development and teaching and learning with technology
  • Ensure instructional integrity and quality of course development by applying systematic evaluation processes and clear course design standards, such as the Washington Course Design Checklist
  • Research, evaluate, and integrate new and emerging educational technologies
  • Provide backup technical support to faculty and students in the use of the learning management system and assist as needed with system administration. May provide support and expertise on other technologies as assigned.
  • Participate in college instructional technology planning; coordinate with related areas including Media Services and Information Technology.
  • Collaborate with the Center for Transformative Teaching team to provide and promote services to the campus community.
  • Stay current on research and trends in teaching and educational technology




Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in designing and teaching online courses
  • Experience supporting underserved students or communities (i.e inclusive or antiracist course design; using data to reflect on classroom practice and opportunity gaps; applying universal design principles)
  • Knowledge of innovative and equity-minded teaching and assessment strategies
  • Strong relationship building and coaching skills
  • Experience with a learning management system and related educational technology, such as Canvas, Panopto, and Zoom, or their equivalents
  • The ability to create, facilitate, and assess online and in-person trainings
  • Ability to facilitate training on Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices
