Job Description

The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City is one of the premier science, research and cultural institutions in the country. The American Museum of Natural History is seeking part-time Research Mentors who are responsible for conducting an independent research project with a pair of high school students in the Science Research Mentoring Program (SRMP). The Research Mentors report to the SRMP Manager.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervise students in the laboratory and guide them through a research project that is either an active project of the scientists’ or a project within the scientist’s scope of work
  • Support the students’ professional trajectories
  • Choose the research project the student will carry out
  • Support student advisory sessions and interviews
  • Participate in 4 mentorship workshops over the year
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a science related field
  • Must have a record of and be actively engaged in research
  • Must have lab or research privileges in an AMNH research facility
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters or PhD in science
  • Experience working with high school students
