Overview

The Manager of Pharmacy Infusion Services oversees the pharmacy operations and staff of the Yawkey 5th floor pharmacy and ancillary areas, including radiation oncology, nuclear medicine, CT/MRI, and the blood donor center to ensure high-quality patient care is provided in compliance with regulations, hospital policies and practices.  The pharmacy Manager coordinates and administers the pharmacy quality assurance and quality control initiatives as well as develop, implement, and administer pharmacy and institute policies and procedures.  The Pharmacy Manager works with Human Resources to interview and hire pharmacists and technicians.  This individual oversees the onboarding and orientation of new staff members as well as ensures ongoing training and competencies are met.  The manager interfaces with other members of the pharmacy leadership team as well as the multi-disciplinary team on pharmacy and institute initiatives, projects, and to ensure efficient operations. The manager is expected to develop and maintain effective working relationships with DFCI personnel and serve on departmental and interdepartmental committees.  It is expected that they be current regarding trends and developments in pharmacy practice and serve as a role model and mentor to the professional and technical staff. 

This position is 100% on site.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the staff and the pharmacy operations of the Yawkey 5th Floor Pharmacy and encourages excellence in work habits, inclusivity, maintaining the pharmacy, and customer service.
  • Assesses daily volume and ensures adequate coverage to meet needs.
  • Ensures compliance with USP chapters, federal and state regulations, and department policies and SOPs.
  • Works to identify, triage, and resolve any issues related to pharmacy, including patient delays.
  • Leads the development and implementation of pharmacy infusion performance improvement activities.
  • Develops and implements efficient workflows within the pharmacy.
  • Works in conjunction with other members of the department, physicians and/or nurses when a new medication or procedure change is introduced. 
  • Oversees the schedule for Yawkey 5 pharmacist, pharmacy technician, and coop coverage for the Longwood Campus.
  • Oversees weekly payroll. 
  • Works with HR to coordinate pharmacist and technician interviews and hiring process.
  • Oversees the training and onboarding of new staff as well as ensuring ongoing training and competencies are met
  • Acts as a liaison with materials management for the pharmacy department, including product review, supply review, and coordinating the pharmacy response to drug shortages once they are identified.
  • Oversees inventory control of controlled substances and works with Nursing Directors to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Attends meetings and participates in Institute wide committees representing Pharmacy, such as the Emergency Medical Response Committee.
  • Meets with nurse director and other staff as needed for Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Oncology, and Blood Donor Center.
  • Stays current with trends and developments in pharmacy practice.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree or Doctorate in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy. 
  • 7 -10 years of hospital pharmacy experience, 4 years of oncology pharmacy experience, and 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Completion of an accredited Health System Pharmacy Administration & Leadership residency program may substitute for experience requirement.
  • Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 
  • Board Certified in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) or a related specialty or an advanced degree related to a specialty practice area is preferred.
