The purpose of the Department of Campus Health (CH) is to provide appropriate, affordable, accessible and high quality primary health care to eligible students, and provide a comprehensive disease-prevention and health education program in the NC State University community. The major function of the SHS is that of providing outpatient care to the34,000+ NC State students. Some level of medical care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year beginning in August and ending in May. Hours of service vary during the summer and during holidays and student breaks.

The primary role of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is to deliver comprehensive individualized health care to NC State students, which includes diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, performing minor outpatient procedures, providing patient education and counseling, and offering health education and disease prevention advice. The person filling this role MUST be able to perform minor procedures and work independently. This position will work as a member of the
medical staff team.

The Nurse Practitioner works in the Gynecology Services department to assess and diagnose problems; interpret medical and clinical information; determine the need for other diagnosis
tests; and develop a plan of care based on patient history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests when indicated. The Nurse Practitioner will prescribe and/or modify treatment plans and/or medication.

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate as a team player in work-related activities as needed.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness drills, accreditation activities and quality Improvement projects as a team player.
  • Serves as an essential employee during inclement weather and mandatory employee during disasters.
  • May assist with employee injury reports.

Minimum Experience/Education

Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program approved By the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and “approved to Practice Medical acts” by the Joint Subcommittee.

Other Required Qualifications

Minimal licensure as above plus:
  • Demonstrated communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse college-aged population.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Nurse Practitioner working in women’s health/gynecology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and competency with insertion and removals of intrauterine devices and sub-dermal contraceptive implants, laceration repair, incision and drainage.

Required License or Certification

  • NC Board of Nursing License and current on required CME for maintaining license.
