Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This position is a 12 month, term appointment. The full-time position is part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education (SNAP-Ed) conducted by the University of Maryland Extension. The Social Marketing Coordinator leads statewide efforts in expanding SNAP-Ed reach related to social marketing campaigns as may be determined by the AGNR College communication strategy. The position will be housed in the SNAP-Ed State Office in Columbia, MD.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Develop and lead statewide and local social marketing campaign materials for SNAP-Ed.
  • Explore new and innovative modalities to reach audiences with social marketing messages.
  • Ensure developed materials meet the goals and objectives outlined in the SNAP-Ed proposal.
  • Assist in the development and dissemination of training materials for SNAP-Ed educators and collaborators on utilizing social marketing messages and materials with collaborators and participants.
  • Ensure social marketing messages align with Policy, Systems and Environmental (PSE) changes at collaborator sites and to align with the direct education efforts occurring at the Maryland SNAP-Ed sites to establish a comprehensive model.
  • Work collaboratively with the state office team to write the annual proposal.
  • Forge partnerships in developing social marketing messages and tools.
  • Attend and contribute to Maryland SNAP-Ed staff development programs and regular communication with the statewide team, including direct work with the SNAP-Ed Evaluation Team to develop and measure program impacts through data collection.
  • Partner with AGNR communication office as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition, health education, marketing or a related field.
  • Experience conducting social marketing campaigns.
  • Applicants must be self-motivated, flexible, innovative, and resourceful with skills in conducting community-based education programs.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to an automobile for travel to sites across Maryland and to SNAP-Ed trainings.
  • Successful candidate is required to obtain a clear background check by the State of Maryland and the FBI.

  • Experience working with low income audiences, including adults.
  • Experience with social media recruitment and engagement.
