THE CRISTIAN RIVERA FOUNDATION

The Cristian Rivera Foundation is seeking volunteers to help set up, staff, and break down our 13th
Annual Celebrity Gala on Wednesday, November 16th at Capitale (130 Bowery, New York, NY 10013).

Setting up will include assembling gift bags for guests, setting tables, assembling step and repeat stands and the red carpet, arranging auction items, and more.

Staffing the event will include greeting guests and directing them to their seats, assisting during the live and silent auction in collecting payment, and other miscellaneous tasks.

Breaking down will include clearing tables, boxing event materials, cataloging remaining auction items, loading materials to be transported, and other tasks as directed.

The morning/afternoon shift to assist with set-up goes from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The evening shift to assist with staffing during the gala and breaking down goes from 4:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.

Volunteers have the option of working both the morning and evening shift if preferred.

About The Cristian Rivera Foundation

Mission Statement

The Cristian Rivera Foundation is a non-profit organization that is committed to finding a cure for Diffuse
Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Our foundation strives to increase public awareness of DIPG, as well as raise funds that will provide financial support to families and medical facilities that conduct innovative research and clinical trials. Through its many efforts, the Cristian Rivera Foundation has helped build the foundation that supports the groundbreaking research that will one day cure DIPG. The Cristian Rivera
Foundation funds the research and clinical trials of Dr. Mark Souweidane, Director of Pediatric
Neurosurgery of Weill Cornell Medical Center - Memorial Sloane (Kettering) Cancer Center and Dr. Oren
Becher, Chief of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital.

Description

After losing his son to DIPG, Cristian’s life journey inspired his father, John “Gungie” Rivera, to start the
Cristian Rivera Foundation, a New Jersey-based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, in 2009.

Today, four children have responded well to the clinical trials conducted by Dr. Mark Souweidane at
Weill Cornell Medical Center which we fund. These four children are providing hope and promise to the medical community and to children and families impacted by DIPG. We also provide funding towards genetic research conducted by Dr. Oren Becher at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital.

We strive to reach our mission through fundraising events, monthly newsletters, media outreach and other methods designed to educate and enlighten those in the community who are not aware of DIPG and its devastating effect on children and families.

Our foundation has also become a source of support, information, and financial assistance to families affected by DIPG. We work with affected families and help them navigate through this difficult process, providing them with the tools they need to understand this horrible disease.
