Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Full Job Description

The Subramanian Laboratory at University of Missouri, Columbia (Venkateswaran Subramanian, Ph.D.) is seeking a motivated individual for the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow. This postdoctoral position is open to recent PhDs, MDs, MD/PhDs, DVMs with expertise in Vascular Biology.

The driving goal of our laboratory is to define mechanisms involved in the development of aortic vascular disease, aortic aneurysms, while working towards identifying novel biomarkers of disease and therapeutic interventions. We utilize gene targeting in mouse models of disease, and relevant cell culture systems to study the cellular and molecular basis of aortic aneurysms (Link to our key publications: DOI: 10.1161/ATVBAHA.120.315546; DOI: 10.1161/CIRCULATIONAHA.119.044986; DOI: 10.1161/ATVBAHA.116.307285; DOI: 10.1038/s41598-017-14719-9; DOI: 10.1038/s41598-019-49090-4).

A major focus of the lab has been to understand autophagy and microRNA regulation of smooth muscle cell homeostasis in abdominal aortic aneurysms. MiRNAs are powerful regulators of gene expression and are emerging as potential biomarkers and drug targets.

A candidate with a strong background in the field of cardiovascular disease, but outstanding candidates with experience in other areas, will be considered.
