Job Description:
The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) and Hazardous Substance Research Center (HSRC) at Louisiana State University is seeking exceptional candidates for a postdoctoral researcher in the field of environmental biotechnology. The candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of researchers investigating fundamental principles and practical applications of biotechnology in environmental systems including further development of wastewater-based epidemiology.
50% - Investigating and developing wastewater-based epidemiology principles and practice for viral, bacterial and protozoan targets in pumped wastewater systems at various scales.
30% - Field and laboratory research on other biotechnology applications in environmental engineering
15% - Training of undergraduate and graduate students.
5% - Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in a relevant scientific field and a strong background in application of molecular biology techniques in environmental systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
A working knowledge of reverse transcriptase quantitative or digital PCR and applicable sequencing techniques. We seek individuals with innovative research agendas that can function in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Candidates with knowledge of wastewater collection systems are desirable but not mandatory.

LSU is designated as the Flagship University in the state of Louisiana, has a total enrollment of more than 30,000 students, and is the only public university in the state to be designated a Carnegie Research I University. The LSU College of Engineering has experienced significant enrollment increases in recent years and has recently occupied the 400,000 square foot Patrick F. Taylor building, one the nation’s largest buildings dedicated to engineering education. LSU is located in Baton Rouge which has a metropolitan-area population of more than 800,000. The university’s location, within one of the world’s largest petrochemical corridors and in close proximity to the Mississippi River and its dynamic delta, provides significant opportunities for environmental engineering research. Current strengths of the department include biological waste treatment processes, chemical fate and transport, energy-sustainable electrochemical systems for remediation or power generation, environmental system photochemistry, groundwater hydrology and hydraulics, and coastal engineering.
