Job Description

The American Museum of Natural History is seeking a Director of Planning and Product. The Director will lead a newly formed team focused on planning, project management and building and shaping technology products for AMNH. This is a "hands-on" position in which the Director will execute various functions as well as manage and lead others performing similar functions. The duties of this position cover the full spectrum between strategy and operations.

The Director of Planning and Product will be responsible for developing a formal planning and project management process for the Information Technology group. This will require meeting with stakeholders, gathering requirements, learning the various business practices of groups across AMNH and developing standard reporting methodologies on the one hand, and learning about the parameters, benefits, risks and general characteristics of AMNH IT systems on the other.

The Director will also lead the management of products for IT with a special focus on Tessitura, which serves as the museum's CRM and ticketing system. The Director will have a broad range of responsibilities related to Tessitura such as: developing and enforcing standards for data integrity within Tessitura and cross-platform; enabling the use of data pooling methods such as data warehousing for reporting and analysis; gathering requirements related to data analysis; helping organizational units across the museum pose intelligent questions that data might help to answer; and serving as a conduit to deeply technical data and systems services within Information Technology. Finally, the Director of Planning and Product will ensure that the Information Technology group and AMNH's vendors are providing platforms and services that meet the needs of stakeholders and collaborators and where there are issues, to serve as an advocate for users and challenge vendors and IT to provide solutions.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree required.
Excellent communication skills, spoken and written.
Excellent planning skills.
More than 5 years of project management experience.
More than 3 years of experience managing teams.
Subject matter expertise in and experience with CRM.
Experience managing large, complex projects and managing and developing project artifacts including project plans, risk and issue logs, defect logs and budgets.
Experience gathering requirements and articulating mission and revenue goals for digital systems.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Business, Computer Science, or Design or related field preferred.
Experience with Museums, attractions or large non-profit organizations highly desired.
Formal project management training and certification highly desired (PMBOK/PMP).
Experience with Tessitura, and CRM, ticketing and transactional systems highly desired.
