GENERAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES

Central Piedmont is currently seeking a PT Instructor Assistant (Science) in the Nature Sciences department located on Multi-Campus.


Anticipated hiring date: 11/1/2022


Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm

Hours per week: Up to 20


General Function

Plans and coordinates laboratory/classroom/clinical activities to support instructional programs (in any Natural Sciences Discipline, specifically Chemistry, Biology, Physics/Astronomy, Geology, or Anatomy & Physiology) and provides tutorial services to students.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Directs students in classes under the supervision of the instructor; trains and supervises activities of students; assists students with problems.
2. Reviews student work, monitors student progress, and evaluates students in consultation with instructors.
3. Prepares facilities for classes and ensures that work areas are clean and neat; ensures that equipment, materials, and handouts are laid out for classes.
4. Assists in maintaining equipment; performs simple maintenance, cleans and stores equipment when not in use, monitors condition, and notifies supervisor of any needed repairs.
5. Monitors inventory of materials and supplies, initiates ordering process as needed.
6. Researches and evaluates new equipment, and makes recommendations regarding purchase decisions.
7. Maintains a library of materials which may include books, tapes, and magazines.
8. Maintains records of activities and student files including grades and attendance.
10. Other duties as assigned.

  • Basic computer literacy (Google and Microsoft Office)
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and standard tutoring procedures

  • Ability to work well with individuals with diverse background

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree


Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a community college / higher education setting or industry and experience as appropriate

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary for this position is $19.64. Classification type is Classified. Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include off-shift hours, evening and weekend assignments may be required of any position. All positions are subject to budget approval.
